Lee Cunningham took part in the Eurocup Caterham support races for the new Superleague Formula 2008 series at Donington Park on 30/31st August. Lee has been coaching newcomer Anthony Newman in both the Caterham CSR 260 and the Caterham Roadsport 1600. Lee drove a superb race on the Saturday going into the lead in the first race, having to eventually drop back to 3rd due to mechanical difficulties with the car, but to his credit remained in constant touch with the leaders relying on his excellent race craft and experience to see him through finishing in a podium position. Anthony Newman made his debut in his first race in the Caterham Roadsport but was unceromoniously T-boned towards the end and despite a cracked rib continued to finish the race. Atrocious weather made a grand entrance on Sunday but Anthony drove a great race in the morning in the CRS 260 to finish a very credible 5th and both guys shared the same car for the final race of the day on what can only be described as a skating rink with nobs on! Lee started the race going from 5th to 2nd in the first lap, then leading for a short time before handing over to Anthony in 2nd place who valiantly plowed on in ever torrential rain finishing 4th in class and 10th overall. Both guys are to be congratulated on a good week-end with their supporters in team gear, Beltico Team Racing, cheering them on from the side lines. Definitely one to watch for the future!
